Giving it Away is a form of Branding

Reading FEEDFROUNT, the magazine for the Affilate Summit (taking place in LV right now – sadly, I’m not there) and seeing article titled “Improve Your Blog Earnings” by Zac Johnson. (writing from my IPhone and can’t place hyperlinks, sorry).

Zac brings up two points that bloggers ought to consider offering, but few ever do, including me.

1. A Newsletter associated with the blog (or blogger, if the blogger writes to several blogs).

2. Giving away free ebooks or services (which can be used to increase Newsletter signups).

Zac Johnson points out a fact, that I know is true, looking at visitation of my blog sites in Google Analytics; most of my visitors are new, they haven’t visited before, and in many cases, won’t return(especially if they found my blog through a search engine).

Simply writing great posts and assuming people who are interested will subscribe to my RSS feed, might be leaving a lot of value on the table that we can’t recapture.

I’d rather see super long posts, as some are prone to write, in a weekly or monthly newsletter, than on the blog.

What do you think?
