Avinash Kaushik released his latest list of Top 10 Web Analytics Blogs and WebMetricsGuru.com is now #5 on the list. Last time he did this list, WMG was #1 and the time before that, #2. Since the first time, in June, both HitWise and EConsultancy have jumped on the bandwagon and decided to apply "web analytics" and "web metrics" technorati tags to themselves, along with Google Blogs. If we stop for a minute, and take those three blogs away, Avinash's blog, Occam's Razor and Mine would be on the top.
At this point, with HitWise in the list, there's almost no way to be #1 for Web Analytics in Technorati anymore - it has 4 times more links than WMG and there's not way to catch up that I can see. Avinash's blog popularity is growing fast but even he will not be able to catch up to HitWise anytime soon. According to Avinash:
"I was amazed at the change in the rankings each month (from June to July to this one). I did not expect so much flux in the rankings. Overall it is so fantastic that the number of blogs on the topic of web analytics continues to increase, as do the rankings of each blog. Viva la web analytics!!! "
If we consider the first five blogs on the list, including mine, to have a Technorati rank under 10,000, the rest of the blogs on the list are still pretty far apart - similar to how you have deep changes in ocean depth very suddenly as you move off of land.
Curious how Avanish figured out how many links it took in July vs now to get on the list:
"Competition is really tough in the blogosphere (hence gains of web analytics blogs are even more impressive). In mid-July it would have taken a blogger roughly 190 unique blog links to get a sub-10,000 technorati ranking. As of today a blogger would need approximately 230 unique blog links. Amazing.
You would have needed 58 unique blog links to make it to the list above today. "
Oh well, maybe Avinash can tell me over a drink when we meet at the Emetrics Summit next month.
