Live Earth Concert - using Compete.com Search Analytics to understand 7/07/07

Live Earth just started - it's 7/07/07 and Al Gore just kicked off Live Earth in Sydney, Australia and I'll try to watch some of the concert throughout the day.

For people who work with Search Engine Optimization or Search Engine Marketing, using Compete.com's Search Analytics is going to help them get more insight to what terms are driving traffic to any site thew want to know about - or… what sites get the top share of traffic from a specific keyword phrase.

According to Compete.com's Search Analytics (which is still in beta testing - so I can't show any screenshots yet) liveearth.org  got 50.82% of it's search referral traffic on the term "Live Earth" and 37.35% of all total traffic for that keyword in Search Engines.  Meanwhile, MSN.com got almost as much of the "Live Earth" traffic (and it's a sponsor of the Live Earth Concert) getting 25.30% of total "Live Earth" traffic.  But when you add the 6.02% of Search share on "Live Earth" that Microsoft Live gets, according to Compete.com, you end up with Microsoft getting almost as much of the "Live Earth" Concert traffic as www.liveearth.org!

Wikipedia's Live Earth page got 8.43% of all "live earth" keyword traffic.

According to Compete's Search Analytics - the top 20 keywords driving traffic to the official site of the Live Earth Concert is:

    1. live earth
    2. live earth concert
    3. july 7 07
    4. live 7 concert

    6. how much will "live earth….." (query cut off)

Looks to me that anyone who got involved with the Live Earth Concert benefited - clearly Al Gore has - but I bet anyone else who is performing will show some increase in searches on their names or brands (look at the spike that just showed up - there's a lot of interest in the July 7, 07 concert.

Being that Microsoft is a big sponsor of Live Earth, I thought they would not mind if I used Microsoft adCenter Labs tools like the Demographics Prediction tool to learn more about visitors who come to Liveearth.org.

According to Microsoft AdCenter - 73% of the visitors searching on Live Earth and coming to the Liveearth.org site are male while 27% are female, with the most interest from 35-49 year old visitors.  But what' weird, and that's why AdLabs tools need to taken with a grain of salt, the visitors to www.liveearth.org are 51% male and 49% female with an average age of less than 18 years - that does not match up.

Meanwhile, adLabs AdWriter tool generated a typical ad that would be taken out in Paid Search to advertise the Live Earth Concert today - here's some examples:

I think the AdWriter tool is still kinda raw - I'd not use it to generate ads (if I was doing Paid Search - which I'm not).

And now, I'll give up doing Search Analytics (at least for today/tonight) and listen to the Live Earth Concert.
