CallBurner

Now that I'm using Skype more often (and it was really great to use in France to call back to the United States) and for all sorts of things - it would be nice if I could easily record my calls.  According to Duncan Riley at TechCrunch - i can do that now with CallBurner.

"..CallBurner is a new standalone Skype recording add-on from the Australian team behind Skylook.

CallBurner uses the technology behind Skylook to deliver the same functionality as Skylook without the need to have Microsoft Outlook installed. The CallBurner client delivers professional recording in a simple interface, recording Skype calls direct to MP3 or to the WAV format for higher quality recordings.

CallBurner isn’t the first software of this type available. What impressed me with CallBurner was how it worked: it worked exactly as advertised where as some packages I’ve tried previously were difficult and/ or temperamental."

I noticed the software is not free - but given what you save on using Skype (like 100 to 200 times less than a typical call over a mobile network) I think fifty bucks is worth the price.

"..This isn’t free software; users get a 14 day free trial then there’s a charge of $49.95 (Windows only), but for heavy Skype users or people conducting business or interviews over Skype that have a need to record calls it’s a price worth paying.

For TechCrunch, the reason they liked Callburner is that it actually worked as advertised:

"…CallBurner isn’t the first software of this type available. What impressed me with CallBurner was how it worked: it worked exactly as advertised where as some packages I’ve tried previously were difficult and/ or temperamental."

I would imagine you can add some metrics to this service fairly easily since all the raw data (voice) is being stored.

If I find myself using Skype enough (as opposed to my mobile phone - it could be worth it).  I know I could probably do all my calls via Skype if I was willing to pay a dollar a week, or so - given how much I speak on the phone.

In fact, CallBurner would be great for Web Analytics Association meetings and WAA Board Meetings - because I'd have all the data recorded to process later and listen to.  Often you get more meaning when you listen or view something a second or third time.
