For those of you who are interested, here’s the presentation I gave today with Venuelabs.com on Social Media Analytics for Retail Stores. The webinar went very well and I think we got to some interesting questions and insights – it was for a select audience, no doubt, that needed what Venuelabs has to offer (with storefront analytics).
To be honest with you – the LBS approach of Venuelabs and the class of LBS Analytics Platforms that are quickly evolving is actually much better suited for online listening – esp if a physical location is a large part of the consideration set (what is being looked at, or for); a lot of noise and ambiguity is lessened that way.
Sure, lots of people won’t be checking in or otherwise sharing information when it’s connected with medicine (doctor’s office checkin, for example) whereas they will at the Supermarket (Whole Foods, A&P, Stop and Shop) or clothing stores (Men’s Warehouse, JC Penny, Macy’s). Computers are always hot (Apple Store, Best Buy, even PC. Richards), but many kinds of activities aren’t shared so much, and won’t yield the same results – so this also has to be studied and thought about more, to see where technologies make sense to deploy, and where they don’t.
A big case is Politics, I bet Venuelabs could be very helpful there as a polling and campaign (literally) monitoring and tactical solution (provided tactical measures are defined in the first place – talked about that in London last week).
Enjoy the presentation – and I’ll have the recording and link ready to share once I get it from Venuelabs.

Well, I hate to just post just about webinarsand things like that (a lot of things to write about – been so busy lately(you have NO IDEA) – it’s been hard to put it all down here, but I will catch up this week, for sure).
However, before we get there – there are two Webinars I’m giving this week and I hope you join me at one or both of them.
VenueLabs & WebMetricsGuru,com Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 2pm EST / 11am PST
On January 31st – this Tuesday, I’m giving a webinar with Venuelabs.com on How to Interpret Social Media for Retailerswhich is going to be, I feel, revolutionary.People just don’t know, in this space, what is going on with Location Based Services and Analytics (for the most part)- they think Social Media Measurement is Radian6 and Sysomos, with sprinkling of Nielsen and NetBase, but it’s much more than that. Join me, find out what your missing – esp if your a brick and mortar business. Many of the problems of Social Media Analytics are somewhat solved, when location is added. I’ll say no more, but if you come, you’ll be presently surprised.
I’ve been working with Venuelabs for a few months and have a really good, constructive dialog with them – as well as a instance of Venuelabs focusing on the New York Art Scene that I’ll be writing about shortly – just to show you what the platform is capable of, and ideas I have as to what they could develop.
The Recorded Future & WebMetricsGuru.com -Looking into the Future with Web Media Analytics - Thursday, February 2, 2011 at 11AM Eastern
Except … Except that we changed it up a bit and wrote about different stuff – in this case the Focus of the Future will be on the Android and iPhone wars and the future of Tablets will be reveled (and perhaps, reviled by some people – ha!).
Semphonic XChange Germany and Semphonic’s new Germany office
Finally; there is the news that my good friends at Semphonic.com have opened up a office in Germany, and are having a German X-Change conference around Memorial Day – I’ll will try to find a way to be there – and bring the European Social Media Analytics firms (at least the one’s I work closely with) into the fold. Here’s the inside scoop – Semphonic Creates a New EU Office and Digital Measurement Program: We are all Berliner’s Now!
Yes, I want to be there. One question – when is Semphonic opening up the London office? Ha!

I got permission to share the presentation I gave earlier this week to a small audience at the invitation of @synthesio, who I’m really glad to have had the opportunity to present to, and to share my point of view (POV) on social analytics. Synthesio contributed the largest case study in the book, on the Accor Hotel Chain, contained in Chapters 3 and 12 (the case study was split up by my editors and parts were placed in each chapter).
I’m still in London till Sunday – and of all the trips I’ve taken here (7 in the last 26 months) this one is the most intense, and perhaps, exhausting. Today is my first “down” day and opportunity to post, upload presentations, and share my thoughts.
I always enjoy coming to London, have friends here, and find the opportunities to present my ideas and approach, in some ways, more opened to me, than it often has been back home (at least, until recently).
