In thinking geo-location and how to use it – similar to the way some are using it for hints and monitoring, when people check in to a book store, for example, I’m surprised I’m not seeing more activity.
The total number of 4SQ checkins over the last 37 days is 8.9 million, but the total I can isolate using Radian6 for Barnes and Noble is 3900 checkins, or 4 tenths of one percent.
In fact, I’m seeing more checkins at particular Barnes and Noble locations on Yelp than Foursquare – and I’m trying to find out if that’s really a result of the way I’m searching or the what Radian6 is able to pick up.
On the other hand, putting the exact 4SQ urls I found in Foursquare or Twitter Search, doesn’t bring up anything more than what I’m seeing in Radian6.
And maybe there’s other ways to do this. It just seems that I was expecting to see more checkin activity that I’m seeing – not that 8.9 million checkins over 37 days, based on FourSquare alone, isn’t bad, it’s great – but that’s a lot of data and find out the use of it is probably a major piece of work plus some deep data dives.
