Noticed something new in Sysomos MAP (Sysomos appears to be adding new features fairly regularly though I did not find a blog post yet dedicated just to Reach) called Reach; the feature appears to be available for Twitter, News and Forum reporting, but not blogs, Facebook or Videos (at least, not yet).
Thought I’d try out the new features using a harmess query- what could be the reach of that over the last 6 months?
“social media analytics” AND (book OR “McGraw Hill” OR “marshall sponder” OR socialmediaanalyticsbook OR webmetricsguru)
Here’s what Sysomos MAP reports back for Twitter Reach

According to Sysomos
“Each is calculated as the total number of times the matching tweet reached a user. This is the sum of number of followers for each unique poster of the tweet.
The authority breakdown pie-chart shows the fraction of twitter within ordinary, prominent or influential category who posted a matching tweet. The three categories are defined based on the authority level of the author.
The exposure pie-chart shows the distribution of number of times a matching tweet was seen by the user.
With News Sites its actually more like the “Reach” of a story online from the looks of it:

And with Forums/Message Boards the report takes a little longer to calculate – but will also report Reach Metrics.

Would be nice to see a long blog post from Sysomos going into these new features (hint, hint) though I have seen traces of the new reports in the last few posts on Sysomos Blog.
Obviously, the audience for Social Media Analytics is going to be more niche (though, who knows…) and one could .. almost play with the query to experiement with what would “widen up” the audience without losing or cheapening the message. I’m not going to try to do that today – all I wanted to do is share this new feature which I’m pretty sure wasn’t there more than a few weeks (at leastI didn’t notice it the last few times I was playing with Sysomos MAP).
Thoughts? Pretty nice feature … right? Anything that could be added to make it even better?
Also would be nice is we understand for all of the channels where Reach reporting is enabled – how is it calculated. The reports draw on Authority level, a metrics Sysomos has been reporting on from the beginning, but past that – what is the calculations ussed for each channel?
Happy when I find new features like this … Reach .. in Sysomos MAP, something most other platfroms I work with do not have as a report. Interesting.
Maybe they should call it “Sysomos Reach” – Ha!
