Living Stories – Google’s experiment with New York Times and Washington Post

Posted by Marshall Sponder on December 09, 2009 | Link It

Upon looking at Living Stories, I’m seeing exactly what I was asking for from Radian6 and the other Social Media monitoring vendors – even though the Living Stories experiment with the New York Times and Washington Post, is not designed to be an automated solution to summarizing news, at least, not yet.

Finally, I’m seeing meaningful “bucketing” of information, of stories

Just imagine if we could group social media information the same way the stories about Health Care are summarized, and a meaningful timeline is presented (see below)

And you can find relevant conversations around the subject your interested in

It was smart to make the conversations embeddable in anyone’s blog – all the more power the New York Times and Washington Post are sharing their data with us this way.

Living Stories is actually a researcher’s dream ….

… and it makes me wonder if most of the Social Media Monitoring tools ought to look more like Living Stories instead of Bad Stories.
