Emarketer just published an article on Twitter Power Users Solidifying Dominance -
“…. Research from Rapleaf shows a virtuous cycle may exist, making popular users ever more popular.
Sounds like the old “power law” ideas – rich getting even richer, etc.
“….Users in the top 0.1% of the group—those with the most followers to begin with—increased their average follower count by 275% from March to June. Those in the top 1% saw their average followers rise by 146% over the period, while the top 10% of users grew followers by 126%. The more followers users started with, the faster their gains.”
My interest in this information isn’t so much to question why power laws are in place and those who have more followers – get even more than those who don’t have many – it’s more about predicting future numbers of followers one is likely to have …(say in a year from now).
