Gary Vaynerchuk @ MediaBistro Career Circus NYC

My blog was down most of the day – something I deeply regret – there’s a lot I wanted to post about  here, but could not – till a few minutes ago.   I think the problem lies with the hosting provider, Dreamhost, which has become a nightmare – and reliance on Cloud computing – which, in this case, appears to be unreliable.   I’m looking into alternatives and hope to have someplace better and more stable to host the blog.

Meanwhile, yesterday Gary Vaynerchuk spoke at MediaBistro Career Circus – I wrote about it on another of my blogs, ArtNewYorkCity.com (where it also applied) The Future of Content and “Working the Room” – being a “Digital DJ” in New York

While I took 4 videos of Gary Vaynerchuk yesterday, mine were, by far, not the best and it makes me wonder if taking videos (using my iPhone) ought to be reserved for moments where there aren’t better cameras around and something unrepeatable is happening.   Rather than show my videos, which were taken from too far away – here’s a complete video of Gary’s talk from BigAppleChannel on Viddler.

One of the things that struck me about Gary Vaynerchuk, in this appearance, is he said in order to survive now you need to be able “work the room” and to know how to listen (and respond).   It strikes me that Social Media is both listening and responding and Gary gave some excellent tips on how he did it.

Personally, I think Gary Vaynerchuk should first teach a class on how to hustle and help people feel comfortable hustling, as much of his advice requires a willingness to work hard hustling prospective customers and emoting passion.

Creating content that you feel passionate about is one thing, going out and finding customers to advertise on your content / blog, is another thing – and often those two things don’t meet.

There’s a lot of entertaining moments in this 1 hour video – which is well worth viewing in it’s entirety.
