I met David Stubenvoll, Alex Dobrushin and their publicist, Bill, for breakfast a few days ago when WOWZA was presenting at the Streaming Media East Conference, here at the Hilton, in New York.
Aside from knowing next to nothing about the server side of Flash and other Rich Media, I didn’t realize how many Web Services have built their offerings around WOWZA including Seesmic and Justin.tv plus some governental agencies, as well.
Aside from the price difference between Adobe FMS, WOWZA is much more efficient as code, has a much smaller footprint, and can handle multiple streaming formats and codecs with the same piece of content, and is the only 3 screen rich media server today.
It could be argued WOWZA empowers small businesses to succeed, where they may otherwise, not, and that will be my angle for Entrepreneur Magazine, where I now have column.
A couple tips about business from Dave about Success
1. Strive to do it without funding
2. Make your business virtural
3. Generate Cash Flow
4. Every 3 months start a new business
5. Don’t run out of Runway (don’t quit your day job till you can take off)
6. Earn at least 50K of revenue the first year
7. Take big risks with small spend
