Virtual World Metrics Panel at EngageExpo – The Videos, and more

When I’m at a conference, like EngageExpo, which I attended yesterday, I often live blog what I’m interested in, using my iPhone; that works great if I’m not too worried about spelling and don’t care about hyperlinks, which I can not add due to the iPhone’s current limitations.

Later on, I can focus more on the content of what I listened to, and in this case, captured on video, and that’s what I’m doing in this post with Virtual World Metrics panel:

Virtual Worlds Metrics = Measuring Engagement
“Engagement” is becoming the big seller in online advertising and engagement is certainly one of the forces driving virtual worlds. But the multi-million dollar question is how do you measure and monetize that engagement? This session will review the essential metrics that every virtual world owner should be tracking. In addition, we will review the pros and cons of various tracking systems in each category, including site analytics, network analytics, ad tracking, security, and moderation.
- Sean Kane, Attorney, Drakeford & Kane LLC (moderator)
- Jared Freedman, President, Code4Software LLC
- Sabri Sansoy, Chief Technology Officer, Animax Entertainment
- Dr. James M. Bower Ph.D., Founder, Chairman, and CVO, Numedeon Inc.

I know almost everyone on the panel, except Sabri Sansoy, and was present more for my friend, Jared Freedman, than anything else – but I did find James Bower‘s statement about a beginning metric for Engagement from Comscore which is the average time spent per visit – and that while this is not an adaquate metric for Engagement becasue it’s not specific enough – it does satisfy the minimum need for an Engagement metric.

With that said, here’s the videos I took of the metric session:

I also have a clip I took earlier in the day about a special device you can wear than can animate your avatar, it’s new, and expensive, but in a few years, will be $400.00, so the owners, hope.
