Social Communications Summit NYC – Feb 10th, 2009

I’ll be at SocComm / The Social Communications Summit -on February 10, 2009 in New York City and at the VIP dinner the night before.   You can be at SocComm too, and it’s worth attend for a number of reasons – plus you can get a $50.00 discount by using this code FTAZSCLZ when you sign up.   BTW, I apologize for the mixture of fonts in this post which I can’t seem to get rid of,

First, let’s talk about why you should attend – if your in NYC next week and your interested in Social Media.

Reason #1 - David Kirkpatrick, Senior Editor, Fortune Magazine is going to be at SocComm and probably will talk about The Facebook Effect a book David is writing and some of the top Tech Stories he’s covered relevant to Social Communications such as How one CEO Facebooked his company and Is Facebook worth your time? (hint: it is)!  On the other hand, maybe David Kirkpatrick will talk about Richard Branson: ‘There aren’t very many virgins left…’ or more about Geography, social media and breakfast.

Point is, I don’t exactly what David Kirkpatrick will talk about – but it’s worth being there to find out.

The Facebook Effect, by David Kirkpatrick

I’ve also known about Kirkpatrick’s writing in Fortune Magazine on Second Life and other Virtual Worlds – and know him to be a Social Influential.   Since Facebook is now the leading Social Network – but yet, there hasn’t been a good book on Facebook (ha, ha), the fact that David Kirkpatrick is writing some thing Similar to Jeff Jarvis “What Would Google Do” book – is telling and Jeff is also going to be a SocComm;  that’s super cool – so not only are you going to get cutting edge information – but you’ll be in a Cool Crowd of happening people.

Reason #2: Fred Wilson, Partner in Union Square Ventures is one the top Venture Capital authority in the world, and the person you’d want to pitch your new venture to (anyone have something to pitch?)- or just want to know Fred, so when you had that new venture you want to pitch, you could pitch it to Fred, if your lucky.    It’s much easier to get to pitch to Fred Wilson if you’ve met him once or twice – and that’s not that easy to do, I bet.  I’ve been reading  Fred Wilson’s A/VC blog for quite some time and all the influentials I know, read it, too – people like Seth Godin read A/VC, for example.    Fred is going to be at SocComm.

Reason #3Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library will be at SocComm – look , everyone knows of Gary – he’s a phonomonal, enegetic speaker who pretty much is totally transparent, knows how Social Media works, but he also knows how business works. I met Gary Vaynerchuk Videos from Motivational Meetup – 11-5-05 and More footage from Gary Vaynerchuk and Dennis Mortensen and here’s one of the videos I made from that meetup

Again, I don’t know exactly what Gary will talk about at SocComm – but I’m sure, it’ll be interesting and you’ll be as cool as Gary, just by attending – because you’ll prove you “get it”, just as Gary Vaynerchuk has.

Reason 4: Jeff Jarvis, I read BuzzMachine every day and really enjoy Jeff Jarvis writing – and what he writes about, Journalism, Social Media and the Global Elite – he was just at Davos, along with Robert Scoble and many others – but Jeff’s writing is the one I go out of my way to read, because Jeff Jarvis has one of the finest minds in Journalism, and he writes it as he sees it, like in Davos09: Open Bank and even more importantly, in Davos09: A crisis and failure of leadership which I wrote about recently.

I bet Jeff Jarvis will talk about his new book- What Would Google Do?

I know I’ll be asking Jeff Jarvis about his Davos coverage – I’ve met Jeff Jarvis a few times, but I don’t know him well; but I admire his work quite a bit and I see Jeff Jarvis as much a leader, in his own way, as Paul Krugman is, with economics (and you know how I feel about Paul Krugman).

Reason 4:  Attend because Rob Key who founded Converseon and Brian Solis who founded FutureWorks are going to be speaking at SocComm – I know both, and have known Rob Key for a long time, maybe 5 or 6 years, and consider him a good friend, and one of the brightest minds in Social Media – his agency, Converseon, is one of the top Social Media Agencies out there.

And I’ll be at SocComm, live blogging and trying to find the insight, the essential truth about Social Media and Communications – and you can come too – and get a $50.00 discount with code FTAZSCLZ.

Maybe, I’ll see you at SocComm – I certainly hope so.
