SocComm 2 Gary Vaynerchuk And Kenny Miller from MTV

Posted by Marshall Sponder on February 10, 2009 | Link It

I spent the entire first 20 minutes of this session of SocComm taping Gary Vaynerchuk (who translates best in video, that will be up later tonight).

Gary was busy telling us that Fox, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc, will all be out of business within 5 years and be replaced by you, the content creator and owner. Gary cursed every other or third word, in the way only Gary Vaynerchuk can (check back later to get my videos of his entire talk).

Ken Miller, on the other hand, is the  opposite of Gary, he works and has worked for MTV for a long time and is working on creating social interaction around established mediums.

Kenny is getting a lot of TOUGH questions from Jeff Pulver and some members of the audience about Social Media cannibalizing MTV shows (but it does not have to).

On Demand Media – what is the predictor of rating a show on yrditional media but on demand kills it.

IDEa of mine – everyone has their own programming based on their “friends” and preferences (viewing habits).

Virtual Reality, the first “eye” phone. Portable Reality, iPhones (Kenny is hunting new and interesting apps in the IPhone store). Some interesting Applications.

New platforms allow new types of experiences.
