Marketing Jobs of the Future could involve Web Analytics and Social Media

I'm not really sure about what the Marketing Jobs of the Future will end up being (and how far into the future are we talking about?) but friend Valeria Maltoni wrote a post today mentioning some of my ideas - Marketing Jobs of the Future.

"…I was having a conversation with my friend Marshall Sponder the other day about marketing jobs being cut from marketing groups in a lot of places. These functions are being consolidated and, in many cases, outsourced to agencies.

Many companies think they can do more with less - resources (including budgets) and people (including those who really get your business). We've been over that in a couple of economic cycles already. Yet, I think this cycle is different for a variety of reasons."

To be perfectly honest, yes, I've noticed a trend where companies are now more comfortable outsourcing some of the marketing fuctions to advertising agencies - and I have the feeling that an analyst embedded in a marketing group is more vunurable than an analyst embedded in a Web Analytics or Data Analytics group -  I can't prove it but that's just what I've observed.

I think Valeria Maltoni will have a more extensive post, later on, that discusses my ideas about Marketing - I definately think Social Media is the way to go - and one of the ways I could see it applying is even to Job Search Engines - which is where I think Valeria's post was going ….

However, I'm more interested in Web Analytics (you can guess why):

Not sure why there's a dip in September 07, unless it's related to Market Fears around the Sub-Prime Mortgage Meltdown.  At any rate, it looks like jobs for Web Analysts are Ressession Proof, more or less - and Eric T. Peterson is saying as much in this recent video from a Web Analytics Wednesday that took place in NYC a few weeks ago:

Among the ideas I mentined to Valeria Maltoni that she'll interview  (and that are mentioned by Peterson in the video above)- that …..

sometime in the near future a Web Analyst will on the cover of BusinessWeek and Forbes - ( the whole video is good footage I took of Peterson last month but the last minute - 8:07 and on is where he lays out our future - the Future of Web Analytics is to go fully mainstream - with all that goes with it) I wish that analyst would be me, but more likely it will be someone of Peterson's elk, as I'm not really technical enough, I'm more of an artist and visionary that also happens to be a Web Analyst - I look at data like a motif, like Mount St. Victoire - looking for trees and hills in it"

Anyway, there's certainly a lot more to say on Marketing Jobs of the Future, and some of them will involve what we now call Web Analytics along with a strong component of what we now call Social Media.
