Standing Self Portrait

When I paint, and I'm happy with what I did – I like to post my work on my blogs, including this one. Web Analytics and Art have become parts of the same thing, for me, a way of synthizing information.

 Standing Self Portrait – Marshall Sponder – 2008 – 18" x 36" Oil Pastel on Canvas Paper

I spent about 5 or 6 hours working on this latest portrait – and wrote about it over at ArtNewYorkCity in a post titled Last few days and Standing Self Portrait.

Oh, by the way, the painting I was thinking about when I started my Standing Self Portrait was Nicolas Poussin's famous Self Portrait which I saw at the Metropolitan las night (it's on loan from The Lourve till mid May).

Social Media Measurement Video

Social Media can be measured successfully and I was able to find this video made by FastCompanyTV.com that I feel, is the best I've seen on how it's best rolled out and measured and had some thoughts about this Social Media Measurement Video which are worth considering.

After all, the idea of what they're doing here isn't all that hard, but the attitude is totally different than you'll find in most places – that's what sticks out to me – attitude – control – the organizers of this campaign have it right.

Journalism Meetup at NYU

I Was at New Media & the 2008 Elections Meetup at NYU tonight and got to tweet about it and listen to Jeff Jarvis moderate a panel of distinguished speakers about the internet and elections this year.

On of the things Jeff Jarvis brought up was the Decline Of US Newspapers is Accelerating – I think this is noteworthy and am making a point of it here:

"…Figures released by the Newspaper Association of America show that the decline of newspapers is more rapid than previously thought, with total print advertising revenue in 2007 plunging 9.4% to $42 billion compared to 2006, the biggest drop in revenue since 1950, the year they started tracking annual revenue."

It was brought up that "Print is dead" at the Meetup tonight.  But the main point was that most journalists supported Obama because he found a way to use the internet to mobilize support and become the front runner (more or less) – and this would not have happened without the internet and one or two people he hired to make his Social Media strategy work.

I also wrote about how the 2008 Presidential Election has been likened to a Reality Show, similar to Top Chef, American Idol or Survivor, and how different that is than what we've had in the past
