Recession-Proof Your Career

Now that it's very likely we're moving into a deep and prolonged Recession while the New York Times reports that overseas markets all around the world fell drasticly over the last 24 hours - In Asia, the Market Decline Accelerates with "… Markets in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney fell further in the opening hours of trading Tuesday than they had all day on Monday" and with U.S. Worries Deliver a New Jolt Overseas that "….a conviction that the United States cannot avoid it has became embedded in many market watchers’ and investors’ psychology."

Furthermore, Yahoo just announced it will shed between several jobs with at least Hundreds of Layoffs Expected at Yahoo (or maybe thousands) .."..The final number of layoffs from Yahoo’s work force of about 14,000 is yet to be determined and is likely to be announced around the end of the month, perhaps during Yahoo’s conference call on Jan. 29 with analysts after it reports fourth-quarter results, these people said."

In this environment that we're clearly moving into Read/WriteWeb has a post about 5 Ways to Recession-Proof Your Career which looks good.

Actually, I've been following every one of those 5 points since the last recession in 2001 - none of it is new to me; I go to as many conferences as I can, have a fairly high online profile, socialize a great deal, learn new things - I take that for granted - it's a way of life for me.

Well, it sounds like that's also the best way to be, if your moving into a Recession.
