Blogger Social Registration closes on 2-15-08…Is that a good thing?

Posted by Marshall on January 05, 2008 | Link It

Heard that Blogger Social deadline to Register is by 02.15.08: BloggerSocial is 90 DAYS away!  Granted that I plan to attend, and that it's really not much money, and I live in NYC anyway - plus some people I know are going to be attending…however - setting a deadline of February 15th, 2008 to register, I feel, is a mistake.

Why?  Because many people, historically, don't register till the last two weeks - that's what happened with LeWeb3 in Paris last month - when I registered, 5 weeks before, there were 800 people, by the time of the conference, there were 2,000 attendees.

I don't mean to compare a new, small conference like Blogger Social to something established - but to my way of thinking - I don't see what setting a deadline really does for anyone … except pressure them.

There is a very easy answer to why there is a deadline and why it’s different from other “conferences”. Blogger Social has no formal company or sponsorships behind it. It is truly a small event funded by registration fees–and only registration fees.

And New York City is a place where we need to secure venues earlier rather than at the end of Feb/in March since the event is April 4th-6th.

We have been saying that registration would need to be early since October of ‘07 due to these very reasons and everyone knows this is a community event, not at all a conference or summit. It’s a social event or “getaway weekend” (3 events over 2 days, actually). LeWeb3 is an amazing and sophisticated knowledge-based conference.

The two are as far apart as can be, really ;-).

Blogger Social is simply a weekend where bloggers who are good friends and good colleagues come together to enjoy some sophisticated meetups and get to talk, laugh and share stories with the bloggers they read and interact with everyday.

Please also understand that Blogger Social is the equivalent of a very, very small not-for-profit initiative all by people on a volunteer basis. We put on a great event, but this is a small, heart-driven event. Not a single penny of profit will be made, the ROI is getting all of us together. That’s it ;-).

I hope that answered your very good question. We are so excited about this event…and it will be amazing…but a humble event it really is. Do hope you’ll join us.

Thanks so much - CK
