Knol Vs. Wikipedia - Jimmy - Jimbo Wales Responds

Sounds like Wikipedia won't really be threatened by Knol according to Jimbo Wales.  At the end of the post on John Battelle's blog, Jimbo is quoted as saying:

"… (Knol is) …Very different from a wiki, and not likely to generate much of quality.

Then I asked if he was surprised that Google did it. "I am surprised it took them so long. :)" was his response."

That's good.  I'm really liking Wikipedia more and more, and I feel like Google is moving beyond serving good search results to creating good search results - which will also outrank competitors - suggesting a conflict of interest.

I can’t wait for Knol. I know I’m not the only person who hasn’t gotten tired of the “Cathedral of Wales Cronies” at Wikipedia.

Knol is exciting because I think it can lead to a lot of very high quality knowledge online and because it seems like people will tie their name to a subject as opposed to it being subjectively evaluated by Wales approved goon squad of the day, it opens up a new dimension of information that just doesn’t exist on the net yet.

No one takes any time these days to write quality information on the net and I think Knol could go a long ways to fixing/improving this.
