Just got word that "Facebook" friend Nataliya Yakushev who i met recently at a Mashable meetup in NYC, discovered Google crawling her Facebook Profile - The Official End of Facebook Privacy: You've Been Spidered!
As you can see my firs/last name combination is rather unique, but in case you need to find John Smith there's an option to look for all users meeting this criteria, but you need to be Facebook member to continue with advanced search.
I thought they were doing that for a while - though I could not find one like that for me, and I have close to 140 Facebook friends as of today - and I'm on Facebook every day - maybe Google hasn't gotten around to crawling my Facebook page yet.
But also, I have a lot more references to my name in Google - somewhere between 19,200 on a weekend to 57,000 during the week - it all depends on what type of day and what day you do the query on Google, that's what I noticed.
But I'm not really that worried about this - it's minor compared to other forms of privacy invasion - and I'm not sure it really is privacy invasion - though online reputation is getting harder and harder to control - and I'm sure, as Nataliya Yakushev noticed, you need to monitor it regularly as there can be "unpredictable results" and sometimes, they're not that easy to fix.
But what fun would life be without some "unpredictability"?
All you can do is take your best shot at controlling your profile and what you make public online and the rest, you just have wait and see how the Search Engines mash it all up - lets' hope they get…..er…better at it.
