Dave Winer - LeWeb3 Coverage - La Scala party last night

I met Dave Winer briefly at MobileBarCampNYC earlier this year and he's on the stage here at LeWeb3 today - and I just walked in at the middle of it.

Dave Winer - Scripting News; In conversation with Loic Le Meur

Dave Winer talked about RSS feeds, which he's famous for inventing the protocol - and a screensaver product - though someone in the audience mentioned Google has a similar product.

Asked to describe how to write a business plan - he doesn't' - and said that back in the 80's when he started up, you didn't need one either - but you did need and idea - I guess you could say that's also part of a conversation.

My sense is you have the relationships you need to pitch a good idea (concept) the business details will form around that idea later.   It's also true, with our communication tools far more advanced now than 20 or 30 years ago - so much asynchronous communication can happen now, on demand, that a formal business plan might only be needed to raise capital - not so much to get initial interest.

Since I walked in at the middle of the talk I don't know what I may have missed.  I was out late last night at the LeWeb3 party at La Scala - which was not quite as big a deal as the one I saw footage of last year - while the nightclub was interesting - it wasn't really any different than what I could go to almost any night of the week in New York.  In other words, what was missing was the entertainment which I thought would be there.

I also had dinner with a friend of Sebastian's which was the better part of the evening.  Tonight I'll probably take a stroll at the Louvre, as it's open late, and catch a party, if I find one, as the LeWeb3 conference winds down - and then it's back to New York tomorrow (Thursday).
