It is not difficult but it does require a very different mindset. A company needs to stop subcontracting the data collection to ASP services running on the web, and then start collecting the data itself and site the store inside its data warehouse alongside its other e-commerce data. The problem is then solved. Unfortunately many senior managers are out of their depth and insecure. In my experience they often prefer to have their hands held by external service providers. This serves to cover up their own inadequacies. Collecting and analyzing the data requires a great deal more investment, expertise and self-confidence. There are enterprise scale products that will do the job. I have bought vBis from http://www.site-intelligence.com and it delivered that functionality. Great product!
