Can the Techmeme Leaderboard be spoofed? Yes

Posted by Marshall on October 06, 2007 | Link It

I was just thinking about the Techmeme Leaderboard, based on ranking top blogs based on how much headline on Techmeme they had over the last month, could easily be spoofed if I was willing to work really hard at it.

All I'd need is a fairly well read and linked to blog like mine, and a constant posting, on my part, on every darn story in Techmeme for the entire month.

I wonder, if I set myself to work on this, if I could actually take a top spot.

I know that I usually get into Techmeme for anything it covers that I write about.

I just bring this up to show how any method that people come up with to rank blogs is also open to being exploited.  Fortunately for me, I'm way to busy to waste my time trying to spoof the new Techmeme Leaderboard…but I'm sure others got the idea before me and I bet someone will try to do it one day soon.

Ah, maybe you missed this in the “About”:

I think you should still try though. :-)

Ugh, your CMS at my bracketed quote. So…the quote from the about section is:

“Discussion” links are not taken in to consideration here — only full headlines are counted.
