I was kinda surprised that DIY's Blog Cabin has become such a hit, but in a way, this is the kind of user generated content that is almost totally missing from architectual sites like www.mascord.com and former clients such www.thehousedesigners.com and their associated designers, as well as most of the other house plans sites they compete with. According to Bloggers Blog:
"…The DIY Network has a show called Blog Cabin where bloggers helped build a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. "
"…Knoxnews.com reports that the cabin was "designed, discussed and tweaked" by bloggers. They also say the show has a big web following. "
I tried looking at Blog Cabin earlier tonight, but it was too noisy at the Starbucks where I was at. I would say, however, that "Blog Cabin" is a pretty good idea, and while it might be much too big a project for most architectual sites to come up and execute an idea like this - it's the right direction.
I'd almost be ready to say ….. let a group of architectual sites, even competitors, collaborate on a project like this one - because they'd all benefit from the publicity and buzz it would generate.
So, now that Blog Cabin has been done …. we'd need a new idea….maybe "Blog Barn", "Blog Garage", "Blog Cottage", "Blog Ranch", "Blog Stable" or even "Blog Hotel" / "Blogger Hotel".
On the other hand, maybe "Blog Cabin" is enough.
