Al Gore (The former next president of the United States of America.) just won the Noble Peace Prize for his work highlighting Global Climate Change, and the movie An Inconvenient Truth helped. In fact, some people want to Draft Gore, draft Al Gore for the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination, a grassroots campaign in order to bring visionary leadership to the White House.
DraftGore.com ran a Full-Page Ad in the New York Times on 10/10/2007 to thank the many thousands of Draft Gore supporters who came through over the past week, and helped fund the Al Gore for President ad.
In Al Gore, Global Warming and 2008 went out and said "..Al Won! The News broke today! Now how about this as a springboard for President".
Last year, Al Gore spoke at the TED Conference about 15 ways to avert a climate crisis and in the TED talk, Al Gore spells out 15 ways we can address climate change, from buying a hybrid car to inventing a hotter brand name for global warming.
In this clip above, Al Gore shows his sense of humor in a way that was absent in the 2000 Presidential Campaign.
Interestingly enough, the Blogosphere is full of Buzz about Al Gore …perhaps he should run for President (Nobel Spurs Gore Supporters to Urge Presidential Bid and ABC Gushes Over Al Gore Nobel Win; He is 'Educating the World' ). Stories about the Nobel peace prize winners abound such as Gore, Nobel Peace Prize winner, says he'll keep up fight
"…Gore, who shares the award with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said at a news conference that global warming “truly is a planetary emergency,” and that he would donate his portion of the Nobel prize money - about $750,000 - to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit environmental group. Gore is chairman of its board."
I think more and more people are thinking Al gore will run for president, yet a current Gallop show not everyone yet feels united in this - GALLUP: Despite Nobel Prize, No 'Groundswell' for Gore for President:
"..There has not been a large groundswell of support for him to run for president to this point, and if he were to enter the Democratic primaries, he would place no better than third nationally in the polls," the report declared. In fact, the most recent 2008 Democratic presidential nomination trial heat showed Gore at just 10%, his worst showing this year."
And yet, fans try to draft Gore "…Hundreds of loyal "Draft Gore" activists in California and around the nation hope Gore hits a trifecta of public recognition." Others are more aware of Al Gore, because he won the Nobel Prize (Al gore Nobel) and with the peace prize, climate change becomes more than just an environmental issue according to an article in Boston.com.
"…If the Academy Award didn't get the world to heed Al Gore on the threat of global warming, maybe the Nobel Prize will. The decision of the Nobel committee to award the 2007 peace prize jointly to Gore and the United Nations Intergovernmental Agency on Climate Change gives the former vice-president his most exalted platform yet from which to speak the truth about how dangerously mankind is degrading the environment."
For some reason, Al Gore seems to be connected with Google more strongly than other political figures because he owns a lot of Google Stock!
"..Al Gore has such a fortune in Google stock that he could easily fund his own campaign for the White House, Democratic insiders say.
Gore became a senior adviser to the Internet search engine back in February 2001, and is a close friend of CEO Dr. Eric Schmidt. Google shares went public in 2004, and the stock has soared from $85 a share to more than $400. Co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are worth an estimated $11 billion each. "
Al Gore is also on the Board of Directors of Apple - so he's well connected with the right technology leaders.
"…The audience was filled with Silicon Valley luminaries: Apple's Steve Jobs; Google's Larry Page and Eric Schmidt; Internet godfather Vint Cerf; Yahoo!'s Jerry Yang; venture capitalists John Doerr, Bill Draper, and Vinod Khosla; former Clinton administration defense secretary William Perry; and a cross section of CEOs, startup artists, techies, tinkerers, philanthropists, and investors of every political and ethnic stripe. "
While no one believes that Al Gore invented the Internet many feel he was an influencer on Internet Development - even if Al Gore, himself, did not invent the Internet.
At the end of the day, I think if Al Gore were to run for President, he ought to wait to the very last minute and then enter
the race…why? Because people are so fatigued with all the candidates they have to consider already and having to make a decision about Al Gore near the end of the race, will be much easier. Also, by running at the very end of the race, Al Gore is less of a target, politically - and that makes a lot of sense to me.
But first, Al Gore needs to decide he's going to run and he needs to win the Democratic Presidential Nomination (or run as an independent). We'll see.
