Techcrunch’s Virtual World Hangout chart and Wello Horld

I like TechCrunch's Virtual World Hangouts: So Many To Choose From published today; interesting due to the stats and segmentation information each virtual worlds (aka. "Social Network") has:

"..The chart in this post provides a basic comparison of these services to convey the range of virtual hangouts that currently exists. It should be noted that we tried to draw a distinction between online worlds where people hang out and worlds where people play role playing games, as is the case with World of Warcraft and Entropia Universe.

The following services are included in the chart:

I've been pretty involved in Virtual Worlds, particular Second Life, not so much because I spent a lot of time in world, I don't - but I think it's important to include Virtual Worlds in the marketing mix and have it plugged into Web Analytics.

In fact, on Friday night I was hanging out with a bunch of Second Life Developers at Lit Lounge, in lower Manhattan (I did not have a chance to write it up yet) but it was great (I even took some footage but also did not have a chance to do anything with it yet - it was kinda dark in the Lit Lounge, so I doubt much came out on the Video).  This was the description of the event I went to - but it was better than this:

You're invited to a casual little metaverse happy hour at Lit Lounge
this Friday evening, 6-10pm. There are a couple of reasons to come out and celebrate, including… our fab organizer Jerry's recent breakaway to start his own company,Wello Horld… plus a couple of Scottish metaverse friends are in town - some of  you know them - Kate & Sean Farrell - who've built many a Sim and have been instrumental in quite a few of the teen grid projects (Global Kids, Kids Connect, Eye 4 You, etc).  and hey, do we really need a reason to get together? No, so come out and play.

Lit Lounge
93 Second Ave
between 5th & 6th Streets
Fri, August 3rd, 6-10pm

I spoke to Jerry about Wello Horld quite a bit - but it's too early for him to say much.  It was a great evening though and I'm glad I went. When I got out of Lit Lounge, it was pouring cats and dogs, well…almost.   I did just get an update from Jerry Paffendorf about his new company:

"..Things have been quiet here for the last month but it was great to see some of you at Lit on Friday night for the happy hour. The short of what's been going on personally is that I'm no longer Resident Futurist with the excellent Electric Sheep Company and some friends and I have branched out to start a new company called Wello Horld. I'll get it out of the way now that I won't be giving any details on what we're up to (muhahaha) for a while still other than our modest founding mission to turn the World Wide Web into the World Wide World. This has kept me really busy but I want to be sure to get the meetups back on track in short order."

Thanks Jerry, it was nice talking with you too.
