Measuring Buzz can be done in a number of ways; I tend to use Blogpulse as it's the easiest and most accessible Buzz Tracking tool I can get my hands on.
But what about when you want to create Buzz using Social Media sites such Digg, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter (to name a few)but not yet sure which term is the best one to use (to create more Buzz)?
WebAnalyticsBook has a post about SiteVolume which everyone seems to think a pretty useless tool … but I'm not so sure it's useless.
Last week I wrote about The Cloverfield Trailer, Cloverfield Trailer - JJ Abrams Buzz - Cloverfield Movie, updated and then soon after, I wrote a post about the success of Cloverfield Trailer in 1 18 08 Online and Google Analytics traffic stats on Cloverfield Movie Trailer which was briefly in position #7 out of over a billion pages in Google. Finding out what topics and terms popular is never a waste of time, but how the information is used determines it's effectiveness.
I think SiteVolume could be a research tool to compare several similar terms and find out which ones are more used in Social Media sites like Digg, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter, in order to decide which terms are best used when a subject is written about.
Here's an example I took focused around the Cloverfield Trailer posts I did this month on which term might be better to use: Digg, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and Twitter with Cloverfield Trailer, Cloverfield Movie, Cloverfield Experiment, 1 18 08 and JJ Abrams (or which terms are best used together).
Of the 5 terms I could have used when I wrote my Cloverfield posts, 1 18 08 is the most used, not only on flickr, but on all 5 Social Media sites. Sure, it's a date and a number, so it's going to be used more just by virtue of being a number.
I'm not saying the it's a great tool, but it could be useful by determining which term you might want to use to get more Social Media Buzz (cloverfield trailer, cloverfield movie, cloverfield experiment, 1 18 08 or JJ Abrams) if I wrote that post on the Cloverfield Trailer today.
We all know a new movie is coming out staring Matt Damon next month Bourne Ultimatum and I wrote a post about it last night called Bourne Ultimatum and Google. But what terms should I use when I write my post besides the obvious "Bourne Ultimatum"? It depends on which Social Media Site I want to get the most visibility on.
For example:
Keywords: Bourne Identity, bourne supremacy, matt damon, bourne identity
Bourne Identity has 96900 citations on MySpace, more than double Matt Damon (with 41200). Guess which term I'm going to use more often?
WebAnalyticsBook is really cooking with gas lately … a couple of superb posts he made today, some of which I'll also post about, such as
I am very interested in this story about Visual Sciences - Visual Sciences for Sale? since I have written that Visual Sciences is the most advanced, best, Web Analytics Solution out there (wrote that last year).
And of course, being a Web Analyst and also a Web Analytics Association Director, I am interested in the Status quo and future of the web analytics industry.
