1 18 08 Online and Google Analytics traffic stats on Cloverfield Movie Trailer

Posted by Marshall on July 10, 2007 | Link It

1 18 08 seems to be a shorthand for the Cloverfield Movie Trailer of the movie which will be released on 1-18-08; I posted about the "Cloverfield Experiment" earlier in Cloverfield Trailer - JJ Abrams Buzz - Cloverfield Movie, updated

I read some news today on Shock Till You Drop suggesting there some "fun" and maybe "viral" stuff (that's what I mused about in my earlier post) was being done on the web by J.J. Abrams, "…producer of 1-18-08, or whatever it's being called this week, (who) wrote in to AICN…:

"…Regarding the online stuff you posted: yeah, we're doing some fun stuff on the web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn't kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat's about what's online? So as you can imagine, we're focusing mostly on THAT. For what it's worth, the only site of ours that people have even FOUND is the 1-18-08.com site. The others (like the Ethan Haas sites) have nothing to do with us."

I thought readers might want to see Traffic Numbers from Google Analytics on my Cloverfield post - as of today, with the Cloverfield Movie going live 1-18-08 :

    • 22,192 Pageviews

    • 19,500 Unique Views (in 6 days - just for THAT POST)

    • 00:01:48 Time on Page

    • 87.49% Bounce Rate

    • 87.00% % Exit

Webmetricsguru.com is a blog - it's normal for people to come to a page and leave the site immediately - since they often come from a search engine listing …. Bounce Rate and Exit Rate, as shown here, need to account for the type of site it is.

I observed that a top listing in Google, if it's a "hot" item, like the 1-18-08 Cloverfield Movie, or whatever it will be called, is worth between 200-500 visits per hour for the time the item is hot; it's not sustainable on individual stories but could be on a more long term query like "free energy" or "pure water" is it were possible to rank on the top listings in Google for that (forget Yahoo and MSN, they don't generate that much traffic most of the time to make optimizing worth it - unless that traffic is better).

Of the Cloverfield traffic that read my blog - about 85% came from Google.

Traffic is coming in from all over the place, but the biggest single source was Los Angeles and New York City.

From a Navigation point of view I was glad that some visitors to the Cloverfield Trailer post also went to the Paris Trip post.

I'm told the new Cloverfield Trailer is now online again …..hmm…1-18-08 Trailer Online in http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com/ and http://www.ethanhaaswaswrong.com/ but I'm not sure about the second URL.

According to Empire Movie News:

"..Now, the mystery deepens. Two new websites went online today. One called ethanhaaswasright.com and the other, naturally, ethanhaaswaswrong.com. The former is a tricksy little bugger, full of puzzles to unlock a number of freaky video clips. So far we've only managed to unlock up to level 4, but we're a bit thick and ham-fisted, so you may fare better. The latter may not even be anything officially to do with the movie. So get in there and see what you can find. Two things are for sure. 1) This is undoubtedly just the beginning. 2) This shit is gonna get weird. And pretty awesome. Oh god, our brains! Our poor, delicious brains!"

Anyway, thought I'd close with a chart of my overall Blog Traffic over the last month:

Actually you should read Revelations. Start paying attention as you near the 18th chapter. The 18th chapter
speaks of “her” the 8th verse saying, “Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire”.
Reading further the 18th chapter”And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city is] like unto this great city!” Think of “her” as the Statue of Liberty and NEW YORK being the great city. Scary HUH??
