Umbria and PR Newswire Developed a Blog-Tracking Tool called MediaSense Blog Measurement -Categorizes Blog Content for PR Newswire Subscribers

Finally, someone is going to give us all a brake by providing timely online content categorization of blog posts relating to press about a company or individual…all you need to be is a PR Newswire Subscriber (and PR Newswire has plenty of Subscribers).

According to Techrockies.com (not techroaches.com):

"…Umbria has partnered with PR Newswire, a popular business news service, to develop a blog analysis tool that will allow PR Newswire's subscribers to track and interpret consumer comments and feedback, Umbria reported yesterday. The application, called MediaSense Blog Measurement, uses Umbria's proprietary technology to provide a visual assessment of blog conversation tone and participant demographics. Umbria said the tool will help PR Newswire clients determine which consumer segments are most engaged in a discussion, thus enabling those clients to better understand their target markets. Venture backed Umbria develops software used for extracting opinions about products from blogs and other social media, and has received funding from Arrowpath Venture Capital, Sequel Venture Partners, and Vista Ventures"

That cuts two ways … it both confirms why Nielsen decided to Acquire the rest of BuzzMetrics but it also suggests that BuzzMetrics, itself, will become irrelevant; more and more products that offer similar features to BuzzMetrics at a greatly reduced cost are getting ready to come on the market.  In other words, the competition will heat up.

Now….I hope I don't end up hearing about a rumor that Google will gobble up, yet another industry - or just use their own search engine intelligence to build a better Social Buzz tool - something they're fully capable of doing.
