Google Analytics V2

I did not get a chance to write about it yet, but Avinash Kaushik, a fellow member of the the Board of the WAA, did - just as the Google Analytics V2 update was released.

I managed to get a fair number of gray and light blue Google Analytics t-shirts at Emetrics this week to take home.

Getting insights about the data is greatly helped by the Google Analytics V2 Upgrade and here's an example while talking about Spiderman 3 at the Emetrics Summit post I wrote just the other day:

  • Search Engines 14,786 (69.33%)

  • Referring Sites 4,359 (20.44%)

  • Direct Traffic 2,179 (10.22%)

  • Other 3 (0.01%)

Keywords Visits % visits
749 5.07%
645 4.36%
586 3.96%
420 2.84%
350 2.37%

My Spiderman 3 post is a week old, while I'm measuring an entire month - yet my traffic from the blog post listing on the second page of Google for "spiderman 3" has shot ahead of any other keyword traffic I got over the last month.

There's so much information in Avinash's post on Google Analytics V2, I won't go over it here - just read his post, and the comments too (as there's a lot of comments and good info therein).

Marshall - Thought you might be interested in my post on 5/9 about the new Google Analytics. Short take: much improved UI, but still no API. With the launch of the vendor neutral CMS Watch Web Analytics Report I started a new blog that will cover web analytics vendors and issues related to purchasing and evaluation.
