Forrester Study: CIO’s want Web 2.0 solutions from large corporations over startups

Interesting piece of news from Read/WriteWeb, much more significant than it sounds. Forrester Research has just released a report concerning 'web 2.0' in the enterprise called 'CIOs Want Suites For Web 2.0' :

"….CIOs have a strong desire to purchase web 2.0 products "as a suite, as well as an equally strong desire to purchase these technologies from large, incumbent software vendors."

I'm thinking IBM WebSphere, but it could apply to other large corporations like HP, Sun, Google, a well known "Brand" that can assemble a whole solution.  Finally, some good news … something Corporations can be good at - providing a whole solution and one that is supported by a major brand - not a fly by night Web 2.0 company that might be gone in a year or two (or a month or two).

At least, that's what this report sounds like to me.

"..the enterprise Web 2.0 market "is beginning to consolidate". Apparently CIOs have a strong desire to purchase web 2.0 products "as a suite, as well as an equally strong desire to purchase these technologies from large, incumbent software vendors." 61% of respondents indicated that they would prefer both a suite solution and a large, incumbent vendor. According to the report, "integration issues, longevity concerns, and the occasional lack of polish" are counting against small vendors."

"…..Forrester also recommends that bigcos, like Microsoft and Google, "go on a shopping spree for best-of-breed technologies."
