What to do when you get involved with Web Analytics

Eric Peterson says …. buy his books and go to the EMetrics Summit if your just getting into Web Analytics.  I have most, but not all of Eric's books.

From what I've seen the online courses provided by UBC are pretty good - I met some of the people involved with it DC at the last Emetrics Summit - and I hope to go to the next one in May (I thought it was in June), in SF.

"…Take the UBC Web Analytics Award of Achievement classes, offered via the Web Analytics Association. All of the feedback I hear from people who have taken the classes is excellent. The folks they have teaching the courses are world-class and the content that I've seen is both fresh and well-written."

Having noted that - for me - I'd do something else.   I don't like reading manuals (and often feel stuck having to read material in sequence) - I like hands on learning, using the tools you have to answer questions and learning as you go.

Make time to play with the web analytics tools you have in-house, kick the tires and see what it can do with the tools you have.  Sometimes, it's though the mistakes you make that you learn the most.
