Searching for Teenar, the Girl Guitar

Posted by Marshall on December 17, 2006 | Link It

I heard about Teenar from Amy Crehore , who posted a picture of the Teenar, Girl Guitar on her blog December 3rd; it was soon picked up by Boing Boing and it's been a roller coaster of high traffic spikes for her blog since then.

I want to track this conversation and what happened - and carry part of that conversation over to Big Green Blog, another place where I am now posting from time to time and I hope you all subscribe to Big Green Blog's RSS Feed.

The obvious - BlogPulse.com Trend Tracker shows

Teenar is the term being tracked and it follows Boing Boing's story on Teenar that linked to Amy Crehore's blog on December 4th

BTW, when Amy Crehore posted her Girl Teenar pictures from 1986 I don't think she had any idea this would happen - all the traffic.  I had written an article on Amy Crehore just a couple of days before @ ArtNewYorkCity.com and I hoped my article - Interview with Amy Crehore - Part 3 - would get Buzzed, and picked up by Boing Boing (as my first one on Amy was) - but everything got eclipsed by the Teenar Girl Guitar.

First, who is the audience for Teenar?  Males 58% Females 42% according to Microsofts' AdCenter Labs Demographic Prediction tool.  Not surprising, with main appeal to people under 18 years and between 35 and 49 years of age.

According to AdCenter (what little traffic I can gather from paid keywords related to Teenar) Indianapolis, Tacoma, San Diego, San Jose are the main cities that drove traffic - but that's not definitive and only covers the US market.  Also, those most interested in Teenar are in the lower economic stratum - not so much people with money (probably more artist types) with Prosperous Family, Young Singles, Blue Collar Middle Income and Urban Lower Income being your main Geo-Demographic cluster segments responding to Teenar.

I used TalkDigger to track conversations about Amy Crehore's post about Teenar, the Girl Guitar and this is what I came up with.

In a way, the reaction to Teenar was mixed as some people were offended by merging a girl with a guitar while others thought the image was interesting if not a little disturbing.

I asked Amy Crehore if I could write a post about traffic Teenar Girl Guitar story (that I wrote about yesterday) generated for Amy Crehore's blog and Internet Buzz.  Amy Crehore uses BlogFlux, which suit her analytics needs well  -…
