Marketing - If your assignment is to change people’s minds, don’t accept the assignment

People don’t change their minds once they’re made up according to Jack Trout.

" Minds don’t change. MTV is something you watch on television. Coupons are something you cut out. And Dell is a business computer that you buy direct. The futility of trying to change minds in the marketplace is a lesson I learned many years ago."

You might want to read the article in Forbes that discusses how difficult it is to change any one’s mind.

On Tuesday Jack Trout, interviewed Chris Anderson about his best selling book The Long Tail. What was most interesting was the discussion about the traditional marketers, and offline companies who are staring at the pages of The Long tail, wondering why it’s a best seller and asking “what the heck do I do with this stuff.” As producer of the program, I was a fly on the wall. Though I’ve read the book, followed the discussions online and read a few of the research papers; I found several good “Ah HA’s” in the interview. Let me know what you think..
