Vanessa Fox, who I met and spoke with at WebmasterWorld Pubcon last April, just posted on a major Google change and enhancement to the SiteMaps program.
I’m not sure how much of the changes are now vs. a re-organization of what they already had - but it’s worth checking out.
"Some webmasters want their sites indexed under the www version of their domain; others want their sites indexed without the www. Which do you prefer? Now you can tell us and we’ll do our best to do what you like when crawling and indexing your site. Note that it might take some time for changes to be reflected in our index, but if you notice that your site is currently indexed using both versions of your domain, tell us your preference"
Most of the features really don’t look new to me - so I think the main change is in how the information is presented. I’m looking for more expansion into the top queries that send traffic - I’d like to see them send the top 1000, not just the top 20.
As time goes on, Vanessa Fox and the Sitemaps team at Google keep improving the product, more and more.
