The Search Engine Wars

Hitwise Intelligence reports the Search Engine Market Share of major search engines and I’ve reported the latest stats in posts such as GOOGLE ACCOUNTED FOR 59 PERCENT OF ALL U.S. SEARCHES IN MAY ACCORDING TO HITWISE.   The search engine are at war with each other – and I visualized that that might look like as a painting.

Right now, MSN is hardly in the picture and Yahoo is the "Y" in the upper left of my painting – I created this picture tonight because I wanted to paint about my life and world I live in – the world of information where the big players are the search engines.

In fact, yesterday, John Battelle wrote about Google and EBay -  A Coopetition Perspective," a term paper of sorts written by two Haas School of Business 2006 MBAs (they both graduated this year).

"In fact, as they researched the paper over the course of the year, the authors came to the conclusion that eBay had no choice but to ally with either Yahoo or Microsoft. Then the Journal reported as much, and the Yahoo/eBay deal went down".

In my painting I thought about Google Earth – and the "G" in Google can cover the entire globe, which is what Google ended up doing.

One thing about painting – it’s far to easy to be "illustrative" and render an idea (like the Search Engines at War) as an illustration.  I try to stay away from that and deal with two and 3D design – the language of painting is color, texture and line, usually on a flat surface.
