Matt Cutts talked about what’s new from the last Webmasterworld Session in Las Vegas (which I did not go to).
- Google Analytics - see where your visitors come from, popular articles
- Google Sitemaps - try it out - here’s the urls of my site and don’t let XML scare you - it’s a very simple format. You can solve a lot of site problems
Matt also talked about how Google filters spam and the Big Daddy data center migration.
Bigdaddy
- live now
- software infrastructure upgrad for crawling and indexing
- lays the groundwork for future improvements
- fresher indexing
- smarter crawling with less bandwidth
- better support for gzip encoding
- crawl cache
Matt went over the caching improvements yesterday - if Google fetches the same page earlier via Adwords (ie:) and then you click on the same link from Organic Search, the Google cache will now allow you to pull that page from the Google Cache.
Also refreshing Supplemental results at one data center
- sizable fraction of supplemental results
- new/different intrastructure, so not all the traffic
- seen most by Canada right now at 72.14.207.104
- New binary at 64.233.187.104
