In today’s homebuilding market, open floor plans are the most popular. Fewer walls allow a more flexible definition of how each space in the home can be used. In this way, the inhabitants can modify the rooms to fit their needs, as those needs change throughout their lives.

In an open floor plan, space becomes casual and very “lived in”, view plans 1231or 2374 at www.mascord.com for examples.  The kitchen/dining area has supplanted the old formal dining room.

Kitchens feature plenty of counter and storage space, and often a breakfast nook, or perhaps an oversized island that serves as a kitchen table. Bye, Bye formal living room, the "family room" has taken over, with the best views, joining the kitchen, for an entertaining area that accommodates all. Small guest rooms are more likely to be used as a home office or exercise room.
