So it happened, Yahoo! buys IndexTools! and the Web Analytics space changes yet again. I can just imagine the problems companies have in deciding what platforms to adopt when they invest in one platform (IE: WebTrends, Omniture/Visual, Coremetrics - the platforms that cost a lot of money and time to implement well) and then find out that Yahoo! may well end up providing the same, or superior capabilities, including segmentation up the Yahoo! by years end.
I have to think that cost is not the main reason a platform is chosen - because Web Analytics is on the way to become a free service - at the rate we're going.
Certainly the analysis and insight is going to cost a lot of money - but the platforms will end up converging and eventually, end up being free, given the way things are going, probably by 2012 (but no one really knows this for sure - because we don't know what is going to happen in the next 3 or 4 years that may change the picture all over again).
