Wishing Om Malik well

Om Malik had a heart attack on December 28th and has been recovering since then; I just found out today while reading my Twitter feed.  Om Malik posted about his heart attack today in A Heart-to-Heart with GigaOM Readers:

"...I had a heart attack on Dec. 28. I was able to walk into the hospital for treatment that night and have been recovering here ever since. With the support of my family and my team, I am on the road to a full recovery. I am going to be OK.

Katie and Liz and the rest of the team will be posting updates on my progress on the site. I’ll be back and writing again as soon as possible.

Now living a healthier life isn’t just one of my New Year’s resolutions, it’s doctor’s orders. Friends and family have purged my apartment of smokes, scotch and all my favorite fatty foods — I am even going to be drinking decaf. I won’t be refashioning my avatar’s stogie with a celery stick, but I will be taking better care of my health."

I worry about something like this too .... heart disease runs in my family, and my father died of a heart attack, as did my grandfather, on my father's side; but both smoked alot and were somewhat overweight when it happened.

I'm really sorry to hear Om Malik had a heart attack but I'm glad he was able to go right to the hospital and got great attention early on - sounds like he's going to be OK and I'm praying for him - and really like reading his posts - I think Om Malik is one of the best technical bloggers out there - and really knows his subject, especically Telecom.

I was hoping to meet Om Malik last month at LeWeb3, but we never crossed paths - but Jason Calacanius says it all for me in Get well soon Om...

"...

Om Malik and I were living it up in Paris last month. The month before we spent Thanksgiving together. Today we all found out that he had a heart attack over the holiday break. He's ok. thank God. Very heavy stuff especially after the tragic death of Marc Orchant--a topic we all discussed in Paris.

Feel better Om, and when you're back on your feet let's skip the scotch and cigars and get some health food after a nice long hike.

We love you man... feel better."
