You know the book Indigo Children? My son is 15 years old and would fit into the generation of the Indigo Child. However, a new term has be coined for Indigo Children, as reported in Ars Technica, these kinds are now called the Google Generation - and there's a post about the Google kids at Generation Google: Not So Much:
"…Born after 1993, this famed set of children, the oldest of whom will be fifteen this year, are supposedly legendary hunters and gatherers when it comes to Internet information."
"…As it turns out, these kids aren’t any more adept at Googling than the average
bearInternet user. Many urban legends about this group were dis-proven in the report. The findings (rated by the researchers as * low, ** medium and *** high confidence):True or mostly true
- They are more competent with technology**
- They have very high expectations of ICTs**
- They prefer interactive systems and are turning away from being passive consumers of information**
- They prefer visual information over text*
- They are the `cut-and-paste’ generation** “There is a lot of anecdotal evidence and plagiarism is a serious issue.”
I made the correlation between Indigo and Google - but I think it's weird that a generation of kids is defined by a search engine - one that I have very mixed feelings about - and I'm not the only one - I think more people than not, are afraid of Google now - they've become too powerful.
