Joi Ito - Neoteny
Addicted to games? Stigma when admitting people like to play games. However, now, playing games is very social and you can play games or even come to know these people offline.
Some of the activities are very sophisticated; most people who are good with online games learn, or are learning to work with groups. The idea of motivating people to work create a sense of ensemble.
Joi Ito contracts this idea is different than Second Life in what it teaches/enables; Second Life is more about being creative while World of Warcraft is about working together as a group.
Watching Joi Ito talk, I got the sense that Games are going Social Network and he mentioned the desire to capture event logs of games and compare friendships and similar activities - perhaps to cross sell games. Also the Machinima revolution - some of the content is created by machines - but there needs to be a standardized way of doing it - License generation
It was interesting to listen to this presentation even as I struggle to stay awake - it's been a long day and it's far, far, from over.
