I wrote two posts earlier this year on The Cloverfield Trailer and Cloverfield Movie that will soon premiere on 1-18-08 (and you can bet that I will see it, and on that date, as well).
The official Cloverfield trailer - also viewable at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvNkGm8mxiM
The first post - Cloverfield Trailer - JJ Abrams Buzz - Cloverfield Movie, updated got phenomonal traffic, at the time, and I postulated, correctly, that having a clip appearing in movie theatres all over the country, with leaked videos on YouTube sounded like Viral Marketing - and I was right (see this post for the proof - which I wrote about in November - it all fits in perfectly and it was clear Dan Ackerman Greenberg had, for one of his clients (read midway into my post):
…This summer, we were approached by a Hollywood movie studio and asked to help market a series of viral clips they had created in advance of a blockbuster. The videos were 10-20 seconds each, were shot from what appeared to be a camera phone, and captured a series of unexpected and shocking events that required professional post-production and CGI. Needless to say, the studio had invested a significant amount of money in creating the videos but every time they put them online, they couldn’t get more than a few thousand views.
(Ha, Ha, Ha - till Dan Ackerman Greenberg and his firm were brought in to "prop" visits to the vidoes, that is)
We took six videos and achieved:
- 6 million views on YouTube
- ~30,000 ratings
- 200+ blog posts linking back to the videos
- All six videos made it into the top 5 Most Viewed of the Day, and the two that went truly viral (1.5 million views each) were #1 and #2 Most Viewed of the Week.
The second post - 1 18 08 Online and Google Analytics traffic stats on Cloverfield Movie Trailer gave details AND my actual Google Analytics Traffic Stats (at the time) for my Cloverfield Trailer post.
But now…. there's something new - a Cloverfield Trailer Widget - or should I call it a Cloverfield Movie Widget, as profiled by widgetgirl who is actually a member of my Social Media Committee at the Web Analytics Association - Cloverfield widget mania - the making of a monster widget!
Earlier this year when J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield / 1-18-08 Trailer Officially Hit! it was said "…The mysterious secret project has had plenty of discussion with a few sparse details released in two articles on FS.net: the first here and the second here. J.J. Abrams is producing, but Matt Reeves is directing and Drew Goddard ("Alias", "Lost") is writing. The film will hit theaters next January 18th, 2008."
But then a Cloverfield Trailer #2 - High Quality Video came out "…The good news is the boys at unFiction have unearthed a fine, HQ Cloverfield #2 trailer. The bad news is that there have been about 3 others pulled within an hour of being put up. Let's hope this one stays up for awhile." And then, with lots of "screaming" and running around ….Cloverfield Trailer Leaks Online, Title Confirmed? from Rotten Green Tomatos, wrote
"… It may not count as an official trailer bulletin, but the full two-minute trailer for Cloverfield has leaked onto the Web, and CloverfieldNews has linked to multiple versions of the clip!
We aren't embedding them here — much as Cloverfield producer J.J. Abrams loves viral marketing, it seems as likely as not that these videos will be cease-and-desisted off the Web before too long — but if you want a peek at what's in store for you in the monster movie everyone's been talking about…".
For some reason, I can't seem to get the Viral Cloverfield Movie Widget to work on this blog - it doesn't seem to appear, even though I've embedded it in this post, below.
