Learning Morality from Superheros - Eclectic Commons

Every so often I find a blog that interests me an particular posts that fascinate me like Eclectic Common's On Mystical Amulets And The Guardians Of The Universe which mentions two of my favorite comic book characters, Dr. Strange and Green Lantern (except I read these comics when I was much younger) - but I never thought I'd learn anything practical from them.

Dr. Strange

Guess what?  Think again, according to doc Jon Percepto:

".You don’t need special skills to be a superhero, you just need to make the most of what you do have. (From Batman, and Teeny Little Super Guy)

  1. Be sensitive to what is going on around you, and respond quickly.
  2. Make the world’s problems your problems, take personal responsibility for it. (From Spiderman)
  3. Willpower and imagination are crucial to success.
  4. Don’t avoid fear. Embrace it and learn to overcome it. (From the Green Lantern)
  5. Even as you be a superhero, be equally human. The two can, and should, coexist. (From Superman)
  6. Find people who complement what you can do and work together. Teamwork is very powerful.
  7. Learn control - when to hold back, when to push forward, and how far to push.
  8. Take the risk of being despised for being different, even to the extent of helping those who despise you. (From The X-Men)
  9. Being a superhero doesn’t have to be a big thing, it’s just about making a difference in someone else’s life. (From Teeny Little Teeny Super Guy)

Eclectic Commons writer also has an uncanny sense of humor that kept me laughing:

"...What would “the joker” do if he possessed the Lasso of Truth? Suppose Mr. Mxyzptlk(1) had the Eye of Agamatto."

"..Would Seven Of Nine, as a Borg, have known how to use the power of Green Lantern’s ring for anything other than assimilation of countless of species?"

Curiously, while Dr. Strange is mentioned for his amulet, doc Jon Percepto doesn't say what one learns from the Sorcerer Supreme; no matter, Eclectic Commons is a pretty good blog to read, and I'm a subscriber.
