I never heard of Juanita Bynum till today - she was below my radar - so I read about Juanita Bynum on Answers.com to find out what her story is - what fundamentally defines Juanita Bynum and why she was attacked by her estranged husband Bishop Thomas Weeks and what light Web Analytics might shed on what audience segments her movement attracts.
Updated - New - 9/26/07 - Juanita Bynum discusses publicly on ABC's Good Morning America and I think it clarifies what happened, somewhat, between Juanita Bynum and the Bishop Thomas Weeks.
I try to stay away from sensationalistic stories like this one, but from the standpoint of Web Analytics, i wanted to explore it and show solidarity with some of my fellow Know More Media authors who decided to write about Juanita Bynum today...but normally I would not have written about Juanita Bynum since it's totally out of sync with what I write about normally which is Web Analytics; though, I do write about Buzz from time to time.
According to Answers.com listing on Juanita Bynum
"....In a time when sexuality permeates the culture, there is a woman who encourages women to find closure for previous relationships, live chaste, and be the kind of people they hope to attract. Using her own mistakes as a basis for her sermons, prophetess Juanita Bynum has dedicated herself to reaching others with a message from God, a message that offers healing and encouragement through suggesting celibacy for singles. Treading on territory where few women have ventured, Bynum has allowed herself to be God's vessel, telling her colorful story to the masses, in hopes of saving souls from following the same dark paths she once walked."
According to Tmz.com, Juanita Bynum was attacked at 4:00 AM in an Atlanta airport hotel parking lot -- by her estranged husband, Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III. The Newsday story about Televangelist Bynum recovering after attack is much more descriptive, but I'll leave that out of this post.
"...Bynum, who often refers to herself as a "prophetess," preaches at New Greater Bethel Ministries in Queens Village."
Actually, Queens Village is not far from where I live, in Brooklyn...small world. I just wonder what exactly happened that would drive the estranged Bishop husband Thomas Weeks to attack Juanita Bynum? What did they say to each other that set him off? Or was he a ticking time bomb waiting to explode?
In Juanita Bynum Assaulted by Thomas Weeks in Parking Lot Know More Media author Dan Smith, where Smith brings up an interesting point:
"...By the way, alert to all celebrities: nothing good ever happens after midnight! At least, that's what my youth leaders always told me."
The Juanita Bynum attack happened at 4 AM.
Meanwhile Juanita Bynum, Christian Celebrities, and Personal Tragedies by Gary Bourgeault (a blogger whose posts I often read) questions the way preachers become celebrities and how that interferes with "the message":
"...is whether the way Christianity, in some circles, has turned into PR machines and ![]()
While I understand anybody trying to get a message heard needs to somehow break through the noise, entering into the ways
businesses do it seems a little off to me.Most of the Bible and past Christianity has focused a lot more on the message and Christ Himself, not propping up and creating preacher-celebrities.

It seems to me her website is drawing an older, more mixed audience than her brand (name).
As far as what happened to her, and now she's come out on "juanita bynum on good morning america" - it's sad to see when couples can't work out their differences, but it gets harder to accept when it's a minister, the estranged husband, Bishop Bishop Thomas Weeks beating his wife, Juanita Bynum.

As we ALL know, there are two sides to EVERY story. I want to hear the Bishops side!
