I haven't been able to get access to test it yet but I read about AjaxLife - Second Life In Your Web Browser from several sources yesterday.
"..Katharine Berry, a student in the UK, has created an in-browser AJAX application that allows you to log into the virtual world of Second Life, but without all of the laggy graphics. This is a great way to pop in-world for a moment if you just want to chat with other residents, and as far as anybody else will be able to tell your avatar will look just fine (although mostly immobile)."
I like to try things out before I write about them .... still, the idea of using a standard browser to connect with Second Life is exactly the kind of innovation we need for Virtual Worlds grow.
It sounds like the server where Second Life AJAX application lives is unavailable because so many people have tried to use it at the same time.
Once I know more, I'll write some more about the the AJAX Second Life Browser.
