Emetrics Summit Day 1 - people I met

Posted by Marshall on May 08, 2007 | Link It

I think the cards of everyone I have collected so far, from Sunday and Monday (yesterday) are all mixed up - so I'll just talk about what stood out to me.

OK, I'll mention again, yesterday, Eric Peterson mentioned he quit working for Visual Sciences and started his on Web Analytics Consultancy - similar to what Avinash Kaushik did recently - Web Analytics Demystified, Incorporated covers the details.

I really had a nice conversation with June Dershewitz, a Web Analytics Association Member, who also had MOO Cards (similar to what I've done with my paintings).  Here's what Eric Peterson had to day about June (I agree):

"..June is as close to a web analytics superstar as they come in my book. She has experience, she is eloquent, and she understands how all the pieces come together to paint the bigger picture. She is one of the few people I know available (occasionally) for contract work in San Francisco and I consider her very much to be part of the heart and soul of our web analytics community. (Shhhh, don’t tell her I said that, okay?)"

I also ran into Justin Cutroni of EpikOne - who also sat at the same table during Jim Sterne's talk yesterday morning.  I talked with Justin Cutroni at the last Emetrics Summit in DC, and he was very helpful in helping me set up Google Analytics for blogs - which I wrote about last year.

Also had a great conversation with Paul Strupp who manages Emetrics and Business Intelligence at Sun about how Web Analytics is structured at Sun.

I also briefly with Dave Rhee who manages Web Analytics for Gateway and Darcy Foster, who runs VKI Studios in Vancouver, BC.

June Li and I spoke several times over the last day - I like her card, it's difference, with the CATALYZE, MEASRUABLE, RESULTS in the back part; her card also has a mission statement (you don't see that on cards often - "Count what matters.  change what counts").

Rene Deschamps Otamendi - CEO of OX2 - spoke to him several times and he's been a a reader and left comments on Webmetricsguru.com - had some interesting thoughts, esp in the conversation that went on Sunday night after the generally WAA meeting.

And I ran into Eric Peterson several times also ….. it's good getting advice from him…when he says something … I always listen to it (I hope I listen to everyone's advice - but I am partial to stuff he says because he's been a main part of Web Analytics).

Also spoke with Brian Induri and Gary Angel a couple of times yesterday.

And it's always great to talk with Jim Humphreys about the goals of the WAA and what we can achieve in the next two years.

Last night - Terry Cohen of Digitas took my co-workers and I out to Dinner nearby the Palace Hotel.   Like I said - it was a long night and I felt as if I ate enough for for 2 days - and I was trying to not eat so much.

And there were some other great conversations that I'll cover later.  Now I have to get ready to head over to the Emetrics Summit - I'm late - I think I missed breakfast.

Hi Marshall! It was a pleasure to meet you, too, and thanks for the kind words. Your Moo card is great; I will stick it on the wall and call it Art.

Hi Marshall,

I’m glad we have had the oppurtunity to meet in person. Happy to see that you’re on the WAA Board right now. I’m sure you’ll bring your art to the association ;-)

Kind Regards,

René
