Engagement Metrics - Part 1 - Eric Peterson

Eric Peterson wrote about Engagement Metrics on his blog today - using Visual Sciences he was able to come up with something real quick (probably in real time) that went further, correct or not, than what I have seen so far for Engagement Measurement using Web Analytics.

I'm not sure Engagement can be measured fully using Web Analytics - and hardly anyone agrees what Engagement is - and I think that would have to be the first step - Define what Engagement is.   Everyone who tries to measure Engagement first defines Engagement in their own way ….then they come up with their own scoring mechanism.  That's fine.

Most of the comments, so far, on Eric's www.webanalyticsdemystified.com blog don't seem to agree with Eric on how he's defined Engagement.

Actually, that's not the point.  Eric can use Visual Sciences to keep mashing up the data any way he wants in real time - and I think that's way more important than if he got Engagement pegged down this time via Web Analytics.

I, for one, am pretty interested in the actual calculations Eric will present in a future post on Engagement Metrics - I'm just hoping that the measurements presented will all be one's that my analytics collects - in other words - lets make sure it's a calculation that you can run using any standard analytics package.
