Metrics for Social Network Media Campaigns

Lee Odden posted his coverage of the Marketing with Social Media session at Search Engine Strategies that took place this week in San Jose.   While reading Lee’s review, which are always excellent and fairly detailed it occurred to me that metrics for Social Media campaigns are now being defined, and here they are:

Social Media Metic 1 - % "clique-through"

The “clique-through” approach is to get specific segments to adopt a particular message.   The degree (percentage) to which an exclusive group hears and accepts your idea.

Social Media Metric 2 - % of Success in Social Media Campaign:  Success in social media =% engagement + %authenticity x %audience reach.

% engagement  = (need to define what engagement is for your campaign then you can devise a way to measure the percent engagement)

% authenticity = (the % of influencer’s have been successful in propagating viral marketing ideas to a Social Media group - however, you need to tightly define the group your marketing to - ie: tax attorneys or M&A attorneys - need to get the group to be as specific as possible).

% audience reach = ( the % of your audience size you have reached with your social media marketing).

This is all very new, but I think you could create a scorecard for this kind of campaign, provided you define all the variables precisely to the campaign (ie: decide what "engagement means to your campaign - then figure out a way to measure it).
