I recently got a request to show more of my paintings online from PJ@Knowingart.com - the structure of them - so in this and the following posts have many of the works I’ve done that I have JPG’s of.
Most go back to 1980’s and 1990’s as I’m not actively painting now - but I was working on the idea of metrics even then.
In this Vermont study I thought myself the tree and the big clouds in the sky was mirroring the tree. Cezanne’s dictum that Art should be like the fingers of your hands meching together was very much on my mind. The relationship with people and things in my life at the time were hidden in my paintings, even the most casual sketch - these things come out automatically - and my goal is to provide feeling - feeling that includes words and goes beyound them - much as artists such as Clay Aiken, Tony Bennet and Elvis inspire feelings beyound the words. It’s not just the words, it’s the feelings behind them.
When I went to Paris in 1988 I stood before Manet’s Afternoon in the Park and it’s as though the feelings of the artist were an open book to me - I could feel the emotion.
Paris was on my mind at the time (1988) but I only went once and just to see the art in the museums.
This interiour view was done during the same period, around 1988.
In the next post I’ll show some more paintings.
